Rajang: What You Should Know About Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne's New Monster
Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne just released earlier this month for consoles but Capcom already has free post-launch content on the way. The first update arrives in just under two weeks, bringing Rajang, one of the series' most terrifying monsters, along for the ride.
The fearsome, fanged beast made its franchise debut back the 2006 as part of Monster Hunter 2. As you can see from the teaser trailer, Rajang looks like a demonic cross between a bull and a gorilla. It shares some physical traits with the Blangoga; however, Rajang's broader musculature, horns, tail tip, and electricity-infused attacks set it apart. Rajang has remained a staple of Monster Hunter since its first appearance, developing new characteristics and mechanics with each installment.
Rajang has long been the bane of hunters due to its raw speed, aggression, and power. It served as one of the toughest Apex monsters in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate with its behavior growing even more erratic in Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate. Though Capcom declined to share the abilities Rajang will possess in Monster Hunter: World – Iceborne, a review of the trailer provides some clues. Rajang punches, slashes, grabs, and throws the hunter shown in the video before entering its infamous golden-hued Rage Mode and shooting lightning from its mouth.
"Hunters, get ready to face the pinnacle of physical strength and unforgiving aggression: the indomitable Rajang," warns the official description.
Though Rajang strikes fear into the hearts of its opponents, Rajang's weapons and armor have held an esteemed place throughout Monster Hunter's history. Rajang parts were especially prized in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, playing a primary role in end-game mixed sets. Hunting the colossus in Monster Hunter: World – Iceborne will, no doubt, prove a difficult challenge; however, the rewards will likely outweigh the risk.
Hunters have until October 10 to prepare for Rajang's arrival.
