How Long Does It Take To Beat Contra: Rogue Corps?
A Contra game in 2019? It's here, thanks to a tag-team effort from Konami and Toylogic. We're sure a lot of retro players are interested in this one, and if you're one of them, you're probably wondering just how large this new entry in the Contra series is.
How long does it take to beat Contra: Rogue Corps? The game takes approximately 20 hours to complete, according to IGN.
Now, Contra games aren't typically known for their length. They're maybe an hour to an hour-and-a-half long, tops. But if you saw footage of Contra: Rogue Corps leading up to its release, you might've gotten the sense that this game is a totally different beast. This is not the side-scrolling shoot-em-up you might have been raised on. This is a 3D twin-stick shooter with — for better or worse — a lengthier campaign.
And most reviews we've seen lean into the "worse" category, including the IGN review we referenced for the game's completion time. That outlet said, "Contra: Rogue Corps is one of the worst games in the revered franchise and does a poor job of reviving the series for a modern audience by switching genres and failing to deliver." Den of Geek wasn't too kind, either, writing, "But even judged independently of the weighty Contra name, Rogue Corps is a disappointment that younger gamers unfamiliar with the series are likely to find incredibly dated. Meanwhile, older Contra fans are going to absolutely hate it. Contra deserves better than this."
Ouch.
We suppose the question now is, if you still want to give it a go, does Contra: Rogue Corps deliver enough value? The game is available on multiple platforms and is priced at $39.99, which is an okay price for a game that'll last you around 20 hours. You'll just have to ask yourself whether or not you think the quality is up to snuff. As we stated, this game isn't reviewing all that well. And there are a ton of better titles out there right now.
Contra: Rogue Corps is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
