Streamers Rocked By Dr Disrespect's Return

Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm is officially back with a shocking story, and not all of his fellow content creators are buying it. Dr Disrespect has mostly been offline since a former Twitch employee alleged that the streamer was banned from the platform for exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor. The Doc later confirmed elements of the story, writing in a since-deleted post on X, "Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes." In a lengthy post, Beahm also said, "These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more."

Since then, fans have only heard from the Doc on social media a few isolated times, once when he deleted his confessional post, then again when he revealed his plan to continue streaming. Dr Disrespect reappeared on YouTube  on September 6, addressing the controversy in a way that almost no one expected. According to Dr Disrespect, nothing inappropriate happened in his Twitch Whispers, and he wasn't speaking with a minor, after all. His entire confession post, he claims, was a set-up to get unwitting journalists and his haters to believe a false story. "That never happened," he said on stream, adding, "I even used the word 'inappropriate,' purposely, and look at how it was defined by everyone ... including these defaming articles."

The Doc's new story came as a definite surprise, and now people are arguing about whether or not they believe the new version of events he's laying out. The Doc still has some supporters, but some major names in the streaming industry aren't so sure.

Many streamers aren't buying it

Nearly 3 million people have watched Dr Disrespect's return stream, and since he went live, countless people have shared their thoughts on the Doc's new story. D'Angelo Wallace opened up a lengthy video on the controversy by saying he could sum up his entire reaction in a single word: "Stupid." He went on to explain, "I have never seen somebody defend themselves against an action by saying that they admitted to it to trick everybody into believing they did it, even though they didn't." Wallace absolutely isn't alone in this line of thinking. Over on X, xQc reacted to the situation by pointing his fans back to the report Rolling Stone did on the Dr Disrespect scandal.

Meanwhile, Amouranth clowned on having spotted some of Dr Disrespect's prepared remarks reflected in his trademark visor. Asmongold noted that there were many things about the story that still didn't add up for him, and hoped that more clarity would be brought to the controversy in the future. Hasan Piker remained incredulous throughout his own reaction stream, noting that it was weird that Dr Disrespect remained in-character for the entirety of his explanation to the audience.

As some streamers were making their feelings known about Dr Disrespect's latest defense, others found themselves fending off some of the Doc's fans. Some who believed Dr Disrespect's new story came after NickMercs, a longtime friend of the Doc who severed ties with the streamer in the wake of the controversy. NickMercs pushed back against people calling him a bad friend, pointing out that Dr Disrespect previously admitted to messaging a minor and that the Doc even reached out to him to personally apologize after the scandal broke. NickMercs definitely doesn't seem to be changing his position in light of the Doc's latest stream.

Dr Disrespect still has supporters

A scroll through the comments on Dr Disrespect's stream reveals that plenty of fans still support him. Some fans are calling on him to sue Twitch, apparently forgetting that he and Twitch seemingly settled a lawsuit over the ban years ago. Others have urged Dr Disrespect sue news outlets for defamation. And although Dr Disrespect lost a ton of business deals and some friends thanks to this controversy, but he does still have some supporters in the industry. Keemstar came out shortly after the Doc's big return stream to write, "DrDisrespect truly has defended himself very well here. Twitch has some explaining to do!" Two hours later he posted a poll on his page, but it seems the general audience on X contradicts his take on the situation.

The Doc probably has enough fans to still get by, but now he's also counting on someone at YouTube believing his story. On his stream, the Doc explained that he'll be applying to have his YouTube channel remonetized later this month, and the course of his future career likely depends on how that application turns out.
