Black Myth: Wukong Fans' Dreams Are Already Coming True

"Black Myth: Wukong" is still over-performing in an exciting way, and the game's smash success has reportedly set developer Game Science on a course for more content. At its peak, "Black Myth: Wukong" brought in over two million concurrent players on Steam alone, and the game is still topping more than a million concurrent players on a daily basis. In just two weeks, Game Science's first AAA title has sold upwards of 18 million copies, making it one of the fastest-selling video games of all time. While "Black Myth: Wukong" is steadily cruising toward one billion dollars in gross sales, the studio that created it is getting ready for what's next. While there's still no word on when "Black Myth: Wukong" might make its way to Xbox Series X|S consoles, the good news is that Game Science is officially working on new DLC for the base game. According to Daniel Wu, CEO of Game Science investor Hero Games (via Bloomberg), "Black Myth: Wukong" will be following the example set by "Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree," giving players an expansion that builds on everything that came before in the base game.

Game Science hasn't revealed anything specific about the direction it'll take with the first expansion for "Black Myth: Wukong," but some theories and recent leaks have added more fuel to the hype machine. We recently learned about all the scenes Game Science left on the cutting room floor, and we're definitely hoping some of those ideas get worked into the DLC. In the meantime, let's dig into what we know for sure, as well as the exciting rumors that are currently circulating.

DLC details might have been leaked

The game's only been out for two weeks, so plenty of people are still making their way through "Black Myth: Wukong," especially because the beginning of the game gives everyone the same problem. It's a challenging game, so there's a huge section of fans who aren't ready for DLC just yet, and Game Science presumably needs more time to cook. According to one leaker, however, the studio might be further along than anyone thinks.

On X, a notable leaker called Lunatic Ignus has claimed that Game Science isn't just planning DLC for "Black Myth: Wukong." According to Lunatic Ignus, the studio is also working on a sequel titled "Black Myth: Jiang Ziya." That's quite the scoop, and on his Discord server, Ignus claimed to have an insider source feeding him the info.

It's worth being a little skeptical of those sequel claims, but some of Ignus' other info seems much more solid: He said that his source found some unused files in "Black Myth: Wukong" that gave out some hints about characters we might see in the DLC. Among these are apparently unused audio files for Buddha, the Jade Emperor, and a Chinese deity named Nezha. It's been theorized that those characters will have big roles to play in the expansion, which could then set up the next installment of the "Black Myth" franchise.

Fans are supporting Black Myth: Wukong all the way

You're going to be hearing about "Black Myth: Wukong" for a long time. Fans are over the moon that the game is getting DLC, and they'll be keeping the hype alive until Game Science reveals its plan for the game's future.

Plenty of players think that "Black Myth: Wukong" is a game of the year contender, and we have a feeling they'll turn out to be right. While some people are dying to get their hands on even more "Black Myth: Wukong" content, others are hoping that Game Science takes its time on the DLC.

Game Science probably won't keep us waiting as long as FromSoftware did with the "Elden Ring" DLC, but the company still has quite a bit on its plate. The Xbox port is supposedly still in the works, and the company has previously stated that it's trying to work out a physical release for "Black Myth: Wukong." In more ways than one, this is just the beginning of the road for the Destined One and his companions.
