New Minecraft Plugin Lets You Read Reddit In Game
Are you so addicted to Reddit that you can't possibly leave the site for more than a few minutes, even while you're playing Minecraft? Have we got the tool for you.
This plugin was shared to the r/Gaming community by a user named DeltaTwoForce. It's essentially a way to view Reddit inside of Minecraft itself, and it's actually a fine piece of handiwork. According to DeltaTwoForce, they're making use of a "spigot server plugin" to make the magic happen, but getting the Reddit client — is it a client? — to work inside Minecraft requires quite a bit of advanced setup.
Simply put: unless you have experience fiddling around with configuration files, this is probably not something you want to mess with. It's not a one-click-install solution.
What the plugin does pull off, though, is wild. It enables you to climb down a seemingly endless ladder, with each floor serving as a hub for a particular Reddit post, showing you the title and the number of upvotes a post has received. Each floor contains a chest, too, and in that chest's inventory you'll find the comments left on that particular Reddit submission.
There's even space reserved on every floor for a photo, if the Reddit post happens to have one. You really need to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.
Is this the most efficient way to browse Reddit? Not by a long shot. What it is, however, is a clever use of Minecraft's sandbox to pull in elements from the outside world. It's been over ten years since Minecraft showed up in beta, and way back when, no one had a clue it would become the phenomenon it is today. But the game's community is still alive and vibrant, and people are still surprising us with the cool things they're able to build.
We'll be on the lookout for the next cool Minecraft thing, so stay tuned.
