How To Unlock The Super Hammer In Super Mario Maker 2
If you've spent some time with Super Mario Maker 2, then you know that Nintendo was lying when it said that everything would be unlocked from the very beginning. If you want to put the Super Hammer power-up in your courses, for example, you're going to have to take a break from making and start playing.
See, the Super Hammer only unlocks once you've finished building Peach's Castle in Super Mario Maker 2's Story Mode. You don't need to complete every stage, which is good because some of Story Mode's four-star levels can be rather tricky. You simply need to grind out enough coins to get the castle to 100% completion, which should take normal players about 60 courses or so. When you've succeeded, Taskmaster Toad will give you a new job called "Let's Go, Build Mario!" You'll also receive a Builder Mario Mii outfit for your troubles.
So, why bother? Well, not only is the Super Hammer one of Mario's signature tools, but it also gives Mario his yellow Super Mario Maker outfit. That's just the beginning. With the Super Hammer, Mario can make up to five blocks in any stage more or less wherever he wants, and can bust through all kinds of normally unbreakable bricks. The Super Hammer also defeats a number of super-tough enemies. Thwomps giving you trouble? Smack 'em with the hammer. Problem solved.
Unfortunately, the Super Hammer can only be used in the Super Mario 3D World theme, so you won't be able to use it to create that 8-bit Donkey Kong throwback you've been dreaming of. There are plenty of other uses for the Super Hammer, though, and you really should be playing through Story Mode anyway. It's great.
