CD Projekt Red Is Not Working On Three New Cyberpunk Games
A whole wide world. A multitude of languages. Things do get lost in translation from time to time, and that appears to be what happened with news that CD Projekt Red has three separate Cyberpunk projects in development.
We reported back on Monday that, according to Polish website Bankier, CD Projekt Red had made mention of three Cyberpunk 2077-related projects, all currently in the works. The first was the main game, Cyberpunk 2077, which arrives in 2020. The second was a multiplayer title with no release date. And the third was an unannounced project, for which details weren't provided.
PC Gamer is now reporting that the above news — which was potentially mistranslated — isn't entirely accurate. And the site has a statement from CD Projekt Red to back it up.
"We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077," CD Projekt Red told PC Gamer. "These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D."
So there are three teams at the studio working on Cyberpunk 2077 alone. And what of the other two teams?
"A separate, dedicated team at the Warsaw studio is handling the development of Gwent," CDPR said. "The final team is Spokko, which is currently working on a yet unannounced mobile project."
That is some pretty remarkable transparency into what everyone at CD Projekt Red is doing. Three teams on Cyberpunk 2077. One team working on Gwent, a game pulled out of the Witcher universe. And one team working on a mobile title, which may or may not be related to Cyberpunk in some way. At most, it appears CDPR could be working on two Cyberpunk titles, but the safe bet is to assume the studio only has one at this time. The mobile game could be anything.
We'll definitely be keeping an eye on this, and we'll be sure to update you should anything change. Cyberpunk 2077 comes to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.
