GTA 6's Vice City Map May Be Hiding In Plain Sight
Now that the world has had a few weeks to really sit with the first trailer for "Grand Theft Auto 6," fans have begun to turn to other marketing materials in their hunt for Easter eggs. The teaser poster for the upcoming game — depicting co-leads Jason and Lucia sitting on the hood of a car as the sun sets in modern-day Vice City — has become the subject of intense scrutiny, yielding some interesting results. It may even contain a lo-fi look at a large portion of the next game's map.
As spotted by u/InevitableLibrary387 over on Reddit, though most people have been focusing intently on details like Lucia's ankle monitor, fans may want to pay a bit more attention to the background elements in the teaser image. Specifically, this Redditor has pointed out a poster on the wall of a building in the lower right-hand corner. It requires a good bit of zooming in to see it, but the poster appears to be the kind of city map that typically appears in tourist welcome centers and downtown areas of major metropolitan cities. That's right; the first poster for "GTA 6" might actually give fans a tease of the full Vice City map. "Please tell me im not the only one who sees it," writes InevitableLibrary387. "Vice Beach on the right, a city in the middle, and scattered islands around it."
Is this the first look at the GTA 6 map?
Since InevitableLibrary387 posted this image, other fans have taken to trying to zoom in further and enhance the image. The results have been pretty exciting, albeit pretty pixelated in some cases. The prevailing theory right now is that this poster at least offers a hint at a portion of the game's huge open world map. Some fans are already having a fun time with the apparent discovery by adding memes or straight-up posting the maps for other games in the image. One of the most popular variants came from u/SmartestManAliveTM, who pasted the "Fortnite" island map in the place of Vice City.
Although "GTA" fans are having fun with the speculation here, the overall sentiment appears to be that people are buying into this theory. Unlike some previous "GTA" fan theories that have hinged on the phases of the moon or wild coincidence, the fact that this is in the official poster is lending a bit of credibility to the apparent discovery. As noted by u/AndrewQuackson, "this isn't a gameplay screenshot. It's not some random piece of paper you might see hanging in a shop window driving by. That was placed in there intentionally while the rest of the background doesn't have many small details. Why have some random poster in the corner?" At the very least, more "GTA 6" sleuths appear to be buying into this theory than the one that tries to make a connection between the three birds on the poster to the possibility of the game starring three protagonists.
