GTA 6's Jason May Not Be Who He Seems
The leaked trailer for "GTA 6" broke the internet on December 4, giving gamers plenty of updates about the long-gestating action-adventure game. Even so, many questions about the upcoming installment remain. Sure, fans now know that "GTA 6" takes place in Leonida — the "Grand Theft Auto" universe's Florida — and places the franchise's signature criminal mayhem in an elaborate open-world setting, but the specifics of its plot are still tightly under wraps.
Another thing "GTA" fans still know very little about is just who the main characters of "GTA 6" are. The first-ever female lead in a 3D "GTA" game is named Lucia, and while the trailer makes it clear that she's had her brushes with the law, it offers precious little information about her life and motivations. Her partner is rumored to be named Jason (according to various leaks), and for now, he's even more mysterious than she is. However, according to Reddit, the game's scant promotional material suggests that he might come from a radically different background than your average "GTA" protagonist: the ranks of the local police force.
"In the poster, he is wearing green cargo pants, which is the color that Miami-Dade Police SWAT team uses," Redditor u/Jack_Torrance80 wrote. "There was also police bodycam footage in the trailer. This seems to support, even a little bit, the rumor that the male protagonist starts the game as a cop." Fans have dug even further into this theory over the last few days, with some pointing out that he also wears his watch in the way a trained shooter would.
Having the male protagonist start out as a cop would create a unique GTA dynamic
The theory that the male protagonist might be a cop is doubly fascinating because fans already know that his co-star isn't on the side of the angels. Lucia wears an ankle monitor in the trailer and is also seen in prison, which suggests that her history with the law is somewhat strained, to say the least. What's more, some have speculated that the ankle monitor might act as a handy in-universe way to restrict her to certain areas of the map in the early goings.
Other than that, Lucia's criminal history could create a truly unique and fascinating dynamic with her partner. Assuming that the cop theory is correct, the pair could start the game on opposing sides of the law, only to form a bond and come together as a criminal couple. Such a relationship would create many fascinating narrative possibilities, and the potential ideological differences between the pair could add a whole lot of extra weight to Lucia's question in the trailer: "Trust?"
