Vampire Survivors 2: Will We Ever Get A Sequel?

No one expected "Vampire Survivors" to become a massive hit, but it did. The deceptively simple game has kept players busy with secret bosses and DLC, but hardcore fans still long for a sequel. That said – will they ever get it?

Developer Luca Galante spoke with GameSpot about the possibility of a "Vampire Survivors" sequel, saying that he was shocked fans wanted one in the first place – or that he even had fans. He'd originally intended for "Vampire Survivors" to reach a small audience, but that's not what happened at first. "I just wanted to get a few players to help with feedback and suggestions as I kept adding content to the core game, and have a laugh together at the silly references," he said. "I was hoping for maybe around 100 people to play it and comment on itch, but that didn't happen." Still, Galante kept working on "Vampire Survivors," and gamers eventually caught on to the fast-paced, yet simple, addictive combat. Still, even though the title has a large following, Galante explained he didn't envision creating a sequel, because in the age of DLC there's really no need.

New content, but no sequel for Vampire Survivors

Galante told GameSpot that DLC eradicates the need for sequels, especially if the developer doesn't want to massively overhaul the gameplay. "With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?" Galante elaborated. "I think that if we make a sequel or a spiritual successor, then we should offer something radically new."

That doesn't mean that "Vampire Survivors" won't receive new content, though. The end of 2022 brought the "Legacy of the Moonspell" DLC, which added a wealth of new content, including new playable characters. Galante didn't hint at any new paid DLC in the works, but he did explain that patches – which also contain new features – would roll out throughout 2023. The future of "Vampire Survivors" may seem murky, but it's clear that Galante and his team have players' interests at heart.

Gamers can continue exploring the wide array of content provided in the "Vampire Survivors" base game, or unlock Endless Mode for eternal battling until news of a sequel arrives.
