This Modern Warfare 2 Bug Is Way Too Overpowered
In "Call of Duty," flashbang grenades are always a handy tool to help create separation between you and enemies and give you time to escape a precarious position or mount an offensive. However, in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," it's obvious that this tool is incredibly overpowered.
While it doesn't damage an opponent, a flashbang grenade is — in theory — supposed to give any enemies in its immediate vicinity temporary disorientation. Traditionally, this is done by turning the screen completely white — depending on how close you were standing to the grenade — and for the image quality to temporarily have a freeze-frame effect. This allows the player who threw the flashbang to either escape a sticky situation or begin mounting an attack.
However, like other features, such as weapon attachments, it seems that this function is somewhat glitched on "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and is a bit much for any player that ends up on the receiving end of a flash grenade. In fact, the effect that flashbang grenades are having right now are so effective, they are practically overpowered and in desperate need of a nerf.
Flash bangs are flipping enemies upside down
On Reddit, user M_Mantle7 posted a video of them being hit by a flashbang grenade while playing "Modern Warfare 2" multiplayer. Titled "Flash grenades need nerfed," the video shows the Redditor's screen literally flipping upside down after being affected by the flash bang's blast. Luckily for them, they weren't in too compromising of a position in the aftermath and could escape without further damage. However, it did show that flash grenades are either bugged to oblivion or are overpowered and in desperate need of an immediate patch.
"That was a flash from the depths of hell. Definitely needs a nerf," one comment said. Another Redditor joked that the flash grenade resembled something out of the Netflix series "Stranger Things" and sent the player into the Upside Down. Another commenter pointed out that flashbangs were entirely ineffective in "Modern Warfare" back in 2019 and now, they're way overpowered.
For now, it seems that the only way to mitigate this overpowered flashbang effect properly is to have the Battle Hardened perk enabled. If you don't, it looks like you're in for a bad time — at least until the effect is patched by developer Infinity Ward.
