Sonic's True Feelings About Amy Have Finally Been Revealed

No hero is complete without his friends. On his various journeys over the years, Sonic the Hedgehog has been accompanied by many companions in his fight against the dastardly Dr. Robotnik, such as Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. While each of these friendships is special in its own way, Sega's de facto mascot seems to have always had a special connection with Amy.

On one hand, Sonic and Amy have always been mostly professional when dealing with threats from others. However, one would be remiss to not acknowledge the obvious romantic tension between the two — at least on Amy's end. Amy even once said back in 2006's "Sonic the Hedgehog" that if things came down to the world and Sonic, she would easily choose the latter. Thus far, fans have been split on whether or not Sonic feels the same way for Amy in return.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by user Faz Faz, Sonic can be seen roaming around the Starfall Islands in "Sonic Frontiers." In the video, audio snippets are heard of Sonic talking to himself about how he must restore Amy — who is projecting herself from a digital realm after falling into a wormhole — while also mentioning that finding Amy is the key to locating Tails, who is apparently lost. However, a few other comments by Sonic seem to imply that he has some unconfessed feelings for Amy.

Sonic alludes to having feelings for Amy in unused Frontiers audio

At one point in Faz Faz's "Sonic Frontiers" video, Sonic comes across a valley that he hopes he can bring Amy to once she and Tails are both brought back into the fold, which definitely comes across as an idea for a date. Things progressively get a little more melancholy, however, as Sonic mentions that he wishes he and Amy were sharing an umbrella later during a rain storm before finally revealing his true feelings about her to the player. "Amy... I should've made up my mind sooner," Sonic says at one point in the video. This firmly implies that Amy's feelings towards Sonic are at least somewhat reciprocated by him, even if he hasn't acted on it to this point.

Unfortunately, these internal thoughts are not currently included in the game and are instead unused audio bits hidden in the files for "Sonic Frontiers" (per TheGamer). However, it has been implied that the game will be added to in the future, meaning these lines can be inserted into the game at any point should Sega wish to do so. Of course, there's a firm contingent of fans that would love to see Sonic have a completely different romance.
