Prince Of Persia Fans Get Bittersweet Update About Remake's Future
Since it was first announced back in September 2020, fans of the "Prince of Persia" games have been eagerly waiting for Ubisoft to give any updates at all about the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake. Development has been tumultuous, in part thanks to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but over time things have only continued to get worse. The release date for the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake has been pushed back several times, but now it appears that Ubisoft has removed the release date altogether.
Ubisoft revealed the bittersweet news in a blog post released on November 7, 2022. It's definitely not what "Prince of Persia" fans wanted to hear after waiting so long for any news at all — the original version of the game came out about two decades ago in 2003, after all — but the update wasn't entirely bad news. Because Ubisoft removed the release date from the game, everyone who pre-ordered the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake will be receiving a refund. This might seem like an obvious indication that the remake is dead in the water, but at the start of the announcement Ubisoft clearly confirmed that the remake is not canceled.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time isn't cancelled, but it doesn't have a release date anymore
Ubisoft posted the update as a response to four questions that many in the "Prince of Persia" community had about the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake and where it's at in development. Ubisoft firmly said that the remake is not canceled in the first bulleted detail of the announcement, and in its second point Ubisoft shot down rumors that it would remake other "Prince of Persia" games. The company then said, "at the moment, a new release date has not been set," and said that it has begun the process of refunding all pre-orders for the game. Ubisoft said that pre-orders would resume when the release date has been solidified.
Though it's definitely not exactly what fans hoped to hear, some fans are just happy to know that the game isn't canceled, even if will take longer to come out. The majority of the response was lukewarm to negative, though, as some criticized Ubisoft for not giving the game enough attention and mentioned other projects the company has been focusing on in recent years. One fan pointed out that the announcement is virtually the same as when Ubisoft announced one of the game's many delays back in 2021. Though Ubisoft didn't share any other details about the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake, the update gives fans a reason to look forward in hopes of better news down the road.
