World Of Warcraft: How To Get The Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm Mount
Folks, Azeroth is a big place. Clocking in at approximately 80 square miles according to YouTuber MetaBallStudios (via blogger Tobolds), the map in "World of Warcraft" outshines even that of heavy RPG hitters like "The Witcher 3" (52 square miles) and "The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion" (18 square miles). This may be impressive, but it also makes the prospect of traveling long distances on your Gnomish legs sound like a fate worse than Ignis' slag pot.
Luckily, we have mounts. Mounts can be ground-, water-, or air-based, and may be unlocked in a myriad of ways. Some ways are much sillier than others, such as the "Mighty Caravan Brutosaur," which earned its place in the ridiculous DLC hall of fame thanks to its $500 price tag and was actually removed from the game. Most importantly, mounts can get you to where you need to be much faster than your legs can carry you. Here's how to get the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm mount, one of the best in the game.
Frostbrood Proto-What?
The "Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm" is not quite the Brutosaur, nor is it one of the more grind-heavy mounts that inspired an interesting Craigslist proposition in one of the WoW community's more messed up moments. Infused with the same necromantic magic that called the Frostbrood to the service of the Lich King, this wyrm is ferocious and loyal to its master. It also has glimmering blue accents on its scales, making it objectively cool and stylish.
This mount can be used on the ground and in the air, offering a minimum of 60% speed boost on the ground and 150% boost in the air when flying is available, with the boost increasing with your riding skill level. It requires apprentice riding to be used on the ground, and expert riding to be flown, so you'll want to work on your skills in order to use the "Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm" to its fullest ability.
Unlocking the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm
In terms of lore, Blizzard has this to say about its new addition: "Few proto-dragons were considered part of the frostbrood – only those that were risen from powerful remains, the members of long forgotten draconic flights." This makes it sound like the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm is something of a rare find, but thankfully all you have to do is complete a certain quest as a certain class within a certain timeframe. Hooray!
Blizzard explained that players must complete the "Death Knight" starting experience with the "Death Knight Hero Class" in "Wrath of the Lich King Classic" before they can unlock the "Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm". In order to begin the starting experience, you'll need to have completed "Where Kings Walk" on "Alliance" characters, or "Warchief's Blessing" on "Horde" characters. Note that you'll be unable to use the mount in "World of Warcraft Classic", one of many quirks that may surprise you if you don't do your research before purchasing the legacy version of the game.
There is, however, a catch. This mount is only available until the release of the "Dragonflight" expansion on November 28, 2022, so get stuck in and get ready to take in the Dragon Isles from the back of your wyrm!
