Respawn Takes A Stand Against Toxic Apex Legends Players
Respawn, the developer behind "Titanfall" and "Apex Legends," has released a statement calling out toxic players in the "Apex Legends" community. Respawn tweeted the statement during Season 14 of "Apex Legends," saying there has been a trend of players going beyond constructive criticism into full-on harassment of the developers working at Respawn.
"We want to remind players that we have a zero tolerance policy for threats and the harassment of our developers," Respawn said in the tweet. "We will take appropriate action to ensure the health and safety of our team."
The message ended with Respawn saying that it still wants feedback on its game and loves working with the community to improve "Apex Legends." Respawn has dealt with toxic fans before, with a one developer getting in trouble in 2019 for publicly insulting a toxic fan. A number of other developers shared the message, along with some encouraging words for the team. Bungie, which has stopped speaking directly to players as frequently due to real-world harassment, responded to the tweet "Standing against toxicity and harassment takes all of us working together to build healthier communities. We are with you in that effort [Respawn.]" Here's how the "Apex Legends" community has responded to this message from Respawn.
The Apex Legends community wants to be better
In a Reddit post titled "Y'all gotta chill," the "Apex Legends" community discussed the message from Respawn and the problems within the community. One Reddit user had some harsh words for the toxic members of the community. "People are so terminally online they think harassing human beings is a reasonable response to a mild inconvenience in that one out of thousands of things they could do in their free time," user Federal_Dependent928 wrote. "Gross, and sad that they'll probably have the absolute opposite effect that they, for some deluded reason, thought they would."
Other users simply reminded the community that game developers are human beings and that they should be treated with the same amount of respect shown to other people. One user even discouraged people from posting about developers at all, since some people seem incapable of doing it nicely. Another person pointed out that toxic behavior could easily lead to Respawn not communicating with the community at all, which could be bad for the state of the game. While members of the "Apex Legends" community certainly saw the message, it's still unclear how toxic members of the community might respond to being called out.
